BRIDES CHECKLIST AND FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 

 

Ordering a wedding cake can sometimes be a daunting task for most couples.  What size do you need, what flavours do you have and what budget do you need to keep in mind.  Below is a simple checklist that i hope will help you make the process a little easier and less confusing.  Most brides start their process up to 12 months in advance, but most decorators need at least 3 months notice in peak season and 6 weeks in off season.

  1. Have a basic idea of the style or theme of your wedding and decide if you want your cake to match it or not.

  2. Do a little research and find pictures of a cake you like, or ideas you would like incorporated into your cake design.

  3. Decide on what type of flavours you might like in your cake, do you go traditional flavours like fruit cake or maybe have more modern mud cake flavours.

  4. Work out how many guests you have and determine your size needs, keeping in mind if you are keeping the top tier of your cake.

  5. Make an appointment with me, bringing in any pictures of any cake designs you like, flowers you might like on the cake and most importantly, colour swatches if you want colour matches.

  6. Sample cake flavours and receive informal quotation.

  7. Book your cake as soon as you have made final decision, place a deposit.

  8. 2 to 6 weeks prior, make certain there is nothing to change with your order, and verify all details with me again.  Start paying off the balance of your cake.

   9.  Ensure your cake is paid for the week before the wedding or it will not be made.

 

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1.  HOW SOON DO I NEED TO BOOK MY CAKE?

SEE YOUR CAKE DECORATOR AS SOON AS YOU HAVE SET A DATE, AS MOST DECORATORS REQUIRE AT LEAST 6 WEEKS NOTICE FOR MOST CAKES, SOME MAY NEED LONGER, ESPECIALLY IF IN PEAK SEASON.  I TAKE BOOKINGS ALL YEAR ROUND, AND DON'T MIND BOOKING A CAKE A YEAR IN ADVANCE.

 

2.  WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO MY CONSULTATION AND HOW MUCH WILL IT COST ME?

MY CONSULATATIONS ARE FREE.  BRING AS MANY ITEMS RELEVANT TO YOUR WEDDING AS YOU WOULD LIKE, LIKE COLOUR SWATCHES, PICTURES OF CAKES YOU LIKE, INVITATIONS, AND ANYTHING ELSE YOU MAY HAVE RELEVANT TO THE DESIGN OF YOUR CAKE.

 

3.  IF I NEED TO HIRE A STAND, WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW, HOW MUCH IS IT?

STANDS I HAVE AVAILABLE ARE CLEAR ROUND ACRYLIC STANDS, 5 TIERS OR 7 TIERS.  THEY BOTH ARE $50 TO HIRE AND A SECURITY DEPOSIT OF $150 IS ALSO REQUIRED WHICH IS REFUNDABLE ON THE RETURN OF THE STAND.

 

4.  I HAVE SPECIAL DIETARY REQUIREMENTS I NEED MET WITH MY CAKE, CAN YOU HELP ME?

I DO HAVE GLUTEN FREE, NUT FREE AND EGG FREE OPTIONS AVAILABLE.  ALL MY CAKES ARE GELATINE FREE. 

 

5.  WHAT SIZES DO I NEED?

FIRSTLY KNOW HOW MANY GUESTS YOU ARE EXPECTING,  DECIDED ON WHAT SHAPES YOU LIKE, DECIDED ON HOW MANY TIERS YOU WANT AND HOW YOU WOULD LIKE TO SERVE YOUR CAKE.  THEN GO TO THE SIZE CHART IN THE FLAVOURS TAB TO FIGURE OUT WHAT YOU MIGHT NEED.

 

6.  HOW DO YOU LIKE PAYMENTS? DO I PAY ALL AT ONCE OR CAN I DO INSTALLMENTS?

I AM HAPPY TO ACCEPT ANY METHOD OF PAYMENT YOU CHOOSE, PROVIDING I HAVE A 25%DEPOSIT 6 WEKS PRIOR.  YOU CAN THEN PAY OFF THE CAKE ANY WAY YOU CHOOSE.  YOU CAN PAY ALL AT ONCE IF YOU LIKE.  I DO REQUIRE FULL PAYMENT THE WEEK PRIOR TO YOUR WEDDING.

 

BELOW ARE THE TERMS OF AGREEMENT I ASK ALL CLIENTS TO VERBALLY AGREE TO.

 

TERMS OF AGREEMENT

BY ACCEPTING THE QUOTE I ACCEPT THE FOLLOWING TERMS AND AGREEMENTS.

1.    I WILL PAY A DEPOSIT ON BOOKING WHICH WILL BE 20% OR $50.

2.    I UNDERSTAND THAT BY CANCELLING MY BOOKING I MAY HAVE TO FORFIET SOME OR ALL DEPENDENT ON HOW MANY ITEMS HAVE ALREADY BEEN PURCHASED.

3.    I UNDERSTAND THAT FULL PAYMENT IS REQUIRED THE WEEK PRIOR TO DELIVERY OR PICKUP UNLESS PREVIOUSLY ARRANGED.

4.    IF PICKING UP YOUR CAKE YOU ACCEPT FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGED CAUSED DURING TRANSIT.

5.    IF CAKE DELIVERED YOU UNDERSTAND THAT ONCE CAKE IS DELIVERED ANY DAMAGED CAUSED BY THE VENUE IS VENUE’S RESPONSIBILITY.

 

IN REGARDS TO CAKE ITSELF

1.      YOU UNDERSTAND THAT DECORATIONS ON THE CAKE ARE NOT EDIBLE, AS IN RIBBONS OR SUGAR FLOWERS OR HEARTS OR STATUES.

2.      A CONSULTATION IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED SO THERE IS NO CONFUSING WHAT THE FLAVOURS WILL LOOK LIKE, AS IN TEXTURE, COLOUR AND FINAL BAKING APPEARANCE, AND IF NO CONSULTATION HAS BEEN DONE,DISAPPOINTMENTS CAN SOMETIMES (ALTHOUGH VERY RARELY) OCCUR .

3.      THAT ALL CAKES ARE COVERED WITH SUGAR STOCK SYRUP PRIOR TO COVERS, AND THIS SYRUP CONTAINS RUM, UNLESS SPECIFIED THAT YOU DO NOT WANT THIS ADDED.  NO JAMS OR GELATINES ARE USED AT ANY POINT IN THE DRESSING OF YOUR CAKE.

4.      ALL SERVING SUGGESTIONS ARE JUST THAT, SUGGESTIONS, AND YOU NEED TO BE SURE THAT YOUR VENUE WILL SERVE THE CAKE ACCORDING.  FOREVER AFTER CAKES ACCEPTS NO LIABILITY IN THE INCORRECT SERVING OF THE CAKE.

5.      THAT ANY ALLERGIES FOR GUESTS NEED TO BE ADDRESSED PRIOR TO THE MAKING OF THE CAKE, AND ALTHOUGH NO PEANUTS OR ALLEGINS OF THAT TYPE ARE USED, FOREVER AFTER CAKES ACCEPT NO RESPONSIBILTY FOR SUCH PERSONS.  GLUTEN FREE PRODUCTS ARE SHOWN TO ALL CLIENTS AND MUST BE ACCEPTED BY THEM AS A SUITABLE PRODUCT.

6.      SOMETIMES COLOURS FOR RIBBONS AND DECORATIONS CAN VARY SLIGHTLY AND CANNOT BE GUARENTEED TO BE A 100% MATCH TO COLOUR SWATCHES, ALTHOUGH EVERY EFFORT IS MADE TO MATCH AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE.
